Manufacturing continues to play a dominant role in Columbia County's economy, thanks in part to a multi-skilled, productive work force, and also to its location straddling Interstate 80, thereby giving businesses in the area ready access to 80% of the U.S. and Canadian markets.  Some of the region’s largest manufacturers are located here including Magee-Rieter Automotive Systems, Wise Foods, Kawneer, and David J. Thompson Mailing Corporation.  With its many programs, Bloomsburg University provides first-class management and technology graduates.  Two major communities serve as centers of business, industry, and government in Columbia County – Berwick and Bloomsburg, with U.S. Route 11 traveling through both.
