Mifflin County Dominated by ridge and valley topography, this scenic area is 25 miles from Penn State University and one hour from the state Capitol, Harrisburg, on U.S. Route 322. Lewistown, the County seat, was awarded the "All American City" designation by the National Municipal League. About 35 percent of the workforce is employed in manufacturing, a factor impacting on the local economy and reflecting the work ethic of this rural area. Major manufacturing employers include Overhead Door Corporation, Krautkramer, U.S. Ultrasound, Lear Corporation, Phillips/Echo, Case/New Holland, and many small- and medium-sized manufacturing and service enterprises.
