Union County Interstate 80, a major east/west artery, intersects in Union County with U.S. Route 15, which runs north/ south, providing the County with excellent road service in all directions. The communities of Mifflinburg, White Deer, and Allenwood are economic centers, along with Lewisburg, which serves as the County seat and home to Bucknell University. Bucknell’s liberal arts and engineering programs are a major asset to the business community and impact on the overall quality and charm of the area. Manufacturing provides the most employment opportunities for County residents and the area work force supplies such companies as Pennsylvania House, Yorktowne, Ritzcraft, The Joist Company, Playworld Systems, and Moore USA. Although not a major employer, agriculture is vital to the lifestyle and culture of the residents of Union County, and tourism is an important element of the economy as well.
